Last Full Day in Paradise!

We had our wake up call this morning, then headed down to the restaurant to have a sip of tea before boarding our morning cruise.

This morning we were able to see some new and/or noteworthy things:

  • White-bellied sea eagle with a fish

  • Oriental darter or anhingas nested in the tree. One was still sleeping

  • Bold-striped tit-babbler

  • White-breasted water fowl (aka chicken)

  • 23 Long-tailed parakeets up in the dead tree

  • Crested serpent eagle (aka mullet serpent eagle)

  • Flying storm stork

  • Asian black hornbill (male)

  • Pacific swallows

  • *Straw-headed bulbul - first siting of the year. Nexter was really excited.

  • *Blue-breasted bee eater

  • Egrets flying in V formation

  • Little white heron

  • Great white heron

  • Male wrinkled hornbill

  • Male oriental pied hornbill

  • Baby long-tailed macaque

When we arrived back from the cruise, we took a walk around the boardwalk and were able to see the dusky broadbill birds busy working on their nest. We were also able to see a big male orangutan in the large tree high above our cabin. I was also able to get a photo of the red-eyed bulbul along the path by our room.

Bill caught up on editing our thousands of photos and then we had lunch at the restaurant on the water. It was nice to be in the shade and feel the breeze off the water.

After lunch Bill went to the lodge to use the wifi and update the blog, while I headed down to the pool to relax, catch up on the blog and read. That is a luxury I don’t normally have on vacation!

Our afternoon and very sadly, our last cruise:

  • Anhinga drying off in the sun

  • Wallace’s hawk eagle

  • Asian black hornbill (female)

  • Female orangutan

  • 20 - 30 Proboscis monkeys

  • Whitecrested hornbills (male and female)

  • Purple heron flying overhead

  • Pigtail macaques performing death defying circus tricks

  • Brahminy kites flying, but sadly not fishing

  • Striated or little heron

  • Black and yellow broadbill (so beautiful)

  • Rubychick

  • Brown-throated sunbird

  • Common kingfisher (alluded me)

For dinner I enjoyed another serving of brinjal (eggplant), along with rendang beef, chicken, rice and veggies. Nexter was really gracious and helped us to tag all of our bird photos with the correct names during dinner. That was an immense help!

We had some wine and a couple of cocktails at the lounge after dinner since we are not required to be anywhere until 9am. Bill was posting some blogs minus photos while I was updating the blog, social media and bird records. I was even able to stay awake after 10pm today. Hurray! I am really to reimmerse myself into big city living!
