Back in KL

I stuffed myself silly at breakfast. I even tried the gelatinous hard boiled egg (a version of the hundred year old egg) and a tea infused hard boiled egg.

Our taxi ride to Merdeka Square was very stress-inducing for me. Our driver was futzing around with Waze and totally missed a green light before we even left our hotel. All of this was happening as Bill said, “this ride is already more expensive than any of the van rides we had in Manila” (very calming for me).

The voice on his Waze was a very nasally, chill sounding Indian man “turn riiiiight”, which the driver was totally ignoring while the eta was rapidly increasing and the payment meter climbed every 10 seconds, whether we are moving or not. Then, the driver had the audacity to try and upsell us a ride to caves outside the city. Seriously?? The 26 min ride to the park was more than enough for me thanks!

From there we walked from the square to the bird sanctuary since I was clearly not over my ecotour.

I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of KL Bird Santuary. It was a bit sad to see some birds in captivity, but it is also so cool to be up close to some of those amazing creatures.

Upon leaving the park we turned down a ride from a lovely stranger, then got incredibly soaked and I slipped on mossy sidewalk and wrenched my back. Note to self, never turn down the kindness of a stranger and never walk during a monsoon. I had never been more soaked in my entire life.

We finally arrived at St Mary’s cathedral and did a brief tour. Afterward, we walked around the historic square. It was very beautiful!

From there we explored the nearby Chinatown. We did not buy any knock-offs, but did buy one small tea cup after sampling some Rock Tea.

We could not find the restaurant we had Googled, but finally decided on a Malay spot, Del Posto Delight. We ordered lamb, chicken and a Carlsberg.  Bill commented that the meal was cheaper and more enjoyable than our cab ride to this area!

Before we departed, I was able to buy some cool postcards that will look good framed.

Back at the hotel I had a refreshing shower and hung our clothes up to dry out.

We decided to walk down to Changkat Bukit Bintang again for another bite to eat. And for the first time even I was begging for no more food. What universe is this??

We bought some instant Boh teh Tarik at a convenience store, then dodged the downpour of rain in a Chinese restaurant. We wanted Malay food, so we passed the time drinking Tiger beer. When it let up a bit we headed to a Xin Ji and ordered pepper crab and banana leaf stingray. The food was much better than the spot we had previous chosen.

We headed back to our room, did a quick change of clothes, then headed up to Sky Bar for happy hour and our reservation by the window overlooking the Twin Towers. There was a momentary hiccup when there was no space by the window, but the issue was quickly resolved and we were awarded our prime view seats.

For the rest of the evening (due to another downpour), we sat by the window at Sky Bar and enjoyed some cocktails, scotch and wine, in addition to the music.
