Taiwan
It was an early wake up as we had to be downstairs at 6:10 for our ride to the airport.
I am not sure what is worse, walking around in soggy shoes or putting cold soggy shoes on. No, I do know, it is the latter and that is what I had to do today. In order to prolonged the torture, I wore my slippers down to the car. Once we were on the flight, I kicked off my shoes again and by the time we touched down in Taipei, thankfully they had dried.
Before the flight we finished the first season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. I am looking forward to season two!
Sadly we were not sitting together on this 5 hour flight. Bill had the luxury of sitting in the emergency exit row and had extra legroom. Thankfully I was seated on the aisle, so it was not too bad.
We both watched Ocean’s 8 on the flight. It Ok, not great. If you need to pass time on a flight, that will do the trick. I had a short nap, not sure if Bill did or not.
We took the MRT train (did not realize until too late that we should have switched trains to go express) and then a subway ride on two lines to get to our hotel. We took a bit of a longer route, but it prevented a 600 metre walk with our baggage.
We were really happy with Les Suites Taipei Ching Ching near the Nanjing Fuxing metro line - http://www.suitetpe.com.tw/chingchen/en/index.html.
The hotel had so many nice touches and was not more expensive than other hotels. They had snacks and drinks available all day long, lots of nice touches in the room - welcome letter, fruit and truffles. At check-in they offered us metro passes and provided us with a free wifi hotspot that we made great use of while navigating around the city during our stay. They alos offered a [mar]Tini Hour from 6:00 to 7:30 every evening that was a great time for us to catch up on the blog and relax after walking around in the rain all day.
By the time we checked in and had our first martini it was pouring rain. We took the metro, then a 1km walk to the incredible Addiction Aquatic Development - http://www.addiction.com.tw/. It is a really neat spot and you can choose to purchase live shellfish, groceries or prepared food from the supermarket, or eat standing up at the Sushi Bar (that’s what we did) or dine at one of the other spots like the Hot Pot.
Our waitress, Mary (not her real name), recommended the Set Menu for Two including seafood plate, oysters, crab, spot prawn and monkfish liver. We also added the grilled king crab leg, nigiri and deluxe sashimi. Plus our came with the best miso soup I have ever had and it was loaded with seafood stock. The meal was incredible and as good as Bill had remembered it.
I even enjoyed the red wine I had with our meal, so we purchased a bottle for our room from the supermarket on our way out.
If you in Taipei, you have to check it out, but please note, bring cash, they don’t accept credit.
We headed back to the hotel and crashed early, so we have lots of time to explore the city in the daylight and hopefully without rain.
