Fun in Bellagio, Even Better Than Vegas
We all slept in this am and Betty and John went to the local cafe and had an Americano and Cappuccino with a Nutella croissant and an apricot croissant. They were hanging with the locals outside the laundaria!
We strolled through the beautiful Melzi Gardens. Betty and I first explored the beautiful marble chapel. There was a Hinoki Cypress in the gardens, exactly the same as the one that the Ruffs have. The Orangerie was a great education about the history of the family who built this place in 1813.
We wandered through the rest of the park enjoying the flowering plants, trees, and the Japanese pond.
In Bellagio, Betty and John bought two bowls for their dining room at Nexi.
We explored some of the town and tried to find a cozy spot to have lunch. While I was waiting for a table, I took advantage and used the toilets. Betty and John decided to find another place to eat, so Bill and I stayed at La Punta and enjoyed the view of the lake from the tip of Bellagio overlooking Lake Como and Varenna and Menaggio.
Bill and I had a great bottle of Pinot Grigio, mixed green salad, lasagna, and lake char with butter and sage. We walked along the pier and took a few photos and then did some shopping up and down the stony streets of Bellagio Centre. I bought a new bracelet and necklace in one of the shops that lined on of the stone stair paths through the centre of the city.
We checked out Chiesa di San Giacomo, the frescos on the ceiling were really good.
Then we walked a short distance along a path between stone walls to the fishing village of Pescallo. We relaxed and watched a black lab dog try to swim out after the ducks. We also saw a swan up close with her two goslings. It was a peaceful spot and would be an ideal area to stay in if we were to return.
We camped in front of a hotel at an outdoor cafe by Pier 1 to wait for our vaporetto back to San Giovanni, our district outside of Bellagio.
The drinks were cold and refreshing, we had a view of the water, and loads of foot traffic to keep us entertained. The boat ride home offered great views of our route to and from Bellagio, and I took lots of photos.
Meanwhile Betty and John did some shopping and bought some tea towels, a t-shirt for Carmella, and some jewelry for Betty. They had lovely lunch at Bar Sanremo.
For happy hour, we enjoyed our Coppo wine on our patio and headed out to dinner. We planned on returning to Silvio’s for dinner but they are closed on Tuesday. John booked a restaurant and offered to drive.
The Bellavista restaurant lived up to it’s name. The view of Bellagio and Lake Como was spectacular!
We had a garden salad and caprese salad to start. We had a great bottle of Barbera wine and Bill and I both had the gluten-free walnut based pasta, Betty had two local lake fish, and John had the lamb chops. For dessert we had triple gelato, apple cake, and tiramisu.
Back at the Airbnb we had a nightcap on the patio and finished packing because we have to leave at 6am tomorrow for the airport.
