Adventures in Airline Schedules and First Impressions of Milan

Bill and I arrived at the airport early, as I had to take a work call at 3pm and wanted to be through security and not in a rush. Had lunch at Twist and then some wine with JR and Betty when they arrived.

Our flights were delayed leaving Toronto.  Then we had to run to the flight in Montreal. Uncharacteristically, JR made a pit stop at the store to buy a cord to charge his iPhone. We were pleasantly delighted that we did not have to cause a scene to keep the plane from departing without them. At this point JR is pretty sure that one of his bags did not leave Toronto and I am thankful that we did not invest in bag tracking devices. Ignore is bliss sometimes!

The flight had some minor turbulence but we arrived in Milan without any incident.  It was a wonderful relief that all of our bags arrived, our driver was waiting, and we are good to go!

When we arrived at Aethos Hotel, our rooms were almost ready so we sat  in the outdoor lounge and had some water. A short time later we checked in to our rooms. The hotel, restaurant and lounge are an amazing spot. The atmosphere is like a museum.

During our first venture out in Milan we met Alicia and she suggested Alta Re for a light bite for our lunch. We had salad, focaccia with zucchini, prosciutto sandwich, and caprese salad. It was a great way to start our food journey in Italy!

While we were exploring the area, we did a quick tour of our first church, Santa Maria presto San Satiro.  Walked toward the duomo, past the duomo and toward the castle instead. Eventually we found the duomo and took some pics,as every self respecting tourist would.

It was Happy Hour, so we had a couple of drinks and then went back to our rooms to freshen up.

We planned a dinner at DeRos. It was a great spot with wonderful service. I had the black cod, Mediterranean sea bass for Betty, baby clams spaghetti for Bill, lobster and pasta for John. We had started with octopus (plus octopus mayonnaise), fennel salad with avocado and anchovies.

We had some delicious gelato on our walk home.  What a wonderful first day!
