Wait For It!

  Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India
December 28, 2014
Today was our last morning in Nepal and Bill was fighting a stomach bug or the spices from lunch yesterday did not agree with him. Last night we did not feel hungry and just stayed in our room and watched 47 Ronin. So far I feel off, but OK, the fact that I still did not have an appetite this morning was concerning me though.

We did go down for breakfast and Bill did not eat much. I had eggs a few veggie dishes and peanut butter and honey on toast with Masala tea.

We walked over to the Boudhanath Stupa and circled the temple and checked out the shops for an hour. We walked back to the room and relaxed for a while. An hour later we repeated our trip and I bought an inexpensive bracelet Our Favourite Stupa. We had our last taste of Nepali cuisine - chicken, sukuti, peanuts, spicy potatoes, papad, soybeans and chiura at The Roadhouse.

Our final impressions of Nepal:

We have met more tourists from outside of Europe and North America since our last trip to Asia.

Flying around the Himalayas was breathtaking.

Hiking in the foothills in Gorkha and the visit to the village was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Paragliding in Pokhara was spectacular.

Napalese people are very kind and generous and have made our travels here great!

It is great to see that Hippies still exist and are keeping the backpacking culture alive.

Nepali and Newari food is delicious! It is a nice blend of spices and not too overpowering Last Nepalese Lunch

Seeing the Buddhist Stupas and monks was great. It really brought back great memories of Tibet.

Some shop keepers barter and some do not. They do not seem to be interested in haggling like other countries we have visited.

Our flight was supposed to be at 1:25, but we were warned that it had been delayed from Varanasi. We went through security, checked in, when through customs, then waited in the lounge for a while. Bill was getting anxious, so around 2:30 we went through another security and down to the gate. We were given some snacks and juice due to the delay.

We finally boarded after 4:30 and landed in Varansi 3 hours late and the city is enveloped in fog. JP greeted us and provided us with the documents we need for the rest of our trip Prayer Wheels. Our driver had to wind his way through the fog and traffic to the hotel. It was pretty crazy, a ghostly figure on a bike without reflectors would suddenly materialize in front of the van. Thankfully we made it safely to The Gateway Ganges without incident.

After relaxing for a while in the room, we went down for some food. Bill ordered soup and I ordered lamb stew.

Since we had so much downtime today I was able to read the entire book that Betty loaned to me, Before I Go To Sleep. It was an easy read and I enjoyed the distraction!
