8 - Last Week in Lisbon
It is so hard to believe that this is our last Monday in Lisbon. The time has been so enjoyable and gone by way too fast. Now we need to make sure we have everything checked off our list!
Bill is playing catch-up with work on Monday morning. It is a grey and drizzling morning, so I decided to play catch-up on the blog instead of exploring on my own.
We headed back to the Maca Verde (Green Apple) for lunch. The waiter recognized us and was surprised (in a good way) to see us again. Bill tried the Iberian pork this time and I ordered Cuttlefish. Mine was covered in potatoes, so Bill gave me his rice and scrapped off most of the potato for me (hopefully enough). Once again the food was outstanding and I was finally able to score my rice dessert - Arroz Doce. It was delicious and I hope I will not suffer the consequences of my choices!!
It was sprinkling on the way over but now is really raining and neither one of us have a jacket. We hurriedly walked across the street to the train station and hopped into a cab. Thankfully that was an option because we would have been soaked and chilled by the time we walked the 20 minutes back to our place.
We worked steady throughout the day and selected a spot to have piscos and ceviche, A Cevicheria, since O Fernandinho was full. It was a nice walk and we crossed through the park with the nice panoramic view by the trolley tracks. One of the tiles motifs at the top of a set of stairs in the park had the date 1927 in it (for my Mom!).
Sergio was a charming and fantatic host. We waited outside under umbrellas with our piscos (allegedly the best in the city and I believe it) for a table indoor - eating outside - much too cold and unpleasant!
He was delighted that I have his mother’s name, so we felt slightly more confident that he would find a table for us.
Sergio had to intervene once we were seated due to my list of restrictions, a bit of an issue since every dish has potatoes, tomatoes, or peppers in it - does track with a Peruvian menu. I was able to select the Portuguese Ceviche and Bill chose the Salmon and Dragon Fruit Ceviche. Bill’s ceviche had salmon, dragon fruit, tapioca, coconut, pineapple, and cashews. My ceviche had codfish, octopus, slow-cooked egg yolk, and crushed corn tortilla instead of textured potatoes.
We have had ceviche served to us in many countries and it has always been more or less the same dish. Maybe different flavours or textures, but this was very unique and amazing! We were totally surprised and really enjoyed our meals. I am still surprised that Bill ate coconut and pineapple and was completely happy!
Why this place only has a 4.3 rating is shocking. The food, staff, drinks, and experience was all exceptional.
