3 - Weekend Illness

Our plan for the day was to do a long walk, go to the art and antique gallery, do some shopping, get a hair cut (Bill), have some lunch, then have a long nap, then dinner, and then off to the Rave / Canivale celebration around 11pm.

Some of that did happen and was great!

We had a nice long walk to Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (MNAA). Portugal really takes crèche’s to the next level and they had some good ones on display. The Panels of St Vincent, which are very famous, were not on display right now due to a restoration process but they did have the work visible so we could get a bit of a glimpse.

There is a big section of Church articles, including Belem Monstrance (houses the consecrated host). It is the most famous gold piece by a Portuguese artist. It has mini statues with the 12 apostles with the Holy Spirit suspended above, God holding a globe of the universe, two large spires on each side, a cross at the top, and lots of precious stones. It is beautiful.

There are some great displays of tiles, pottery, gold and silverware, statues, Japanese folding screens, furniture, and paintings - mostly religious figures or events but some portraits too.

I enjoyed seeing the Andrea Mantegna painting - Madonna in Glory with Saints. It was beautiful, serene, and gave them impression of 3D that is not captured in my photo.

We would highly recommend this on your trip to Lisbon. It was a beautiful space, well laid out, and lots of neat treasures to explore!

We had lunch at La Boulangerie. We were seated in the sun at a table for 4 when a family showed up so we moved into a shadier seat for 2. My stomach was really unhappy and I was feeling a bit chilled from the museum.

I had a great salad with prosciutto, figs, almonds, and honey. Bill had a huge pizza. It was delicious but I passed on wine to not further aggravate my stomach.

We were able to go into Igreja de Santa Catarina, as it is open today. And it is so beautiful - gold everywhere! And some beautiful artwork on the ceilings. Definitely worth checking out.

Bill had his haircut and needing to go all out for tonight I found some sparkles for my face and nails.  We stopped at Kiko to buy a bold eyeliner and some lipstick and lipgloss. Across at Flying Tiger, I bought some rainbow sox to complete my look for the evening (and some Easter egg decorations for our mini-tree).

We had naps in the afternoon which were interrupted by my sprints to the toilet that lasted until 1am

We did not make the festival and I was sooooooo disappointed.

I spent the next day in bed and did not even have enough energy to shower.

Bill popped out a couple of times to eat and coaxed my to have an apple with peanut butter and some popcorn on Sunday.
