Final Thoughts on Cambodia
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
April 28, 2009
Siem Reap:
They have done an excellent job here for attracting tourists.
Easy access with a brand new international airport
Great hotels, resorts and restaurants
Very clean
Friendly people, very good English
Phnom Penh:
Has a long way to go...
Smelliest city we have ever been in
Lots of garbage
Most beggars we have seen so far
Still on the road to recovery
Couple of nice areas, the rest is not so nice
Insane traffic
Poor drainage, major flooding after a 2 hour storm, what is it like when rainy season is at its' peak?
Sihanoukville:
Decent place to go if you are looking for a beach, but there was lots of garbage on the beach
Great market
Decent places to eat
Good Guest Houses
In General:
Nothing unique about the cuisine
Using US money was handy
A lot of NGO and government assistance for disadvantaged people (had not seen that before)
Happy Hours!!
Bus Travel is superior to anything else we have seen so far - toilets on the bus, bag check, stewardesses, wet naps, water, snacks, on time service, the trip is as long as they say it is going to be
Lexus 470's all over the place
A lot of foreign owned businesses
Very good English in all of the places that we went to
