Bang a Gong, we are on our way back to Yangon

  Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar
March 21, 2009Our breakfast was toast, fruit bread (really good, very moist), eggs, sausage (more like hotdogs), grilled tomato, jam and honey.

Today Naked lady is wearing white see-through pants.... Sigh!

We packed and Bill went to the pool to enjoy his new cigar and a beer. I did a short upper body workout and had a nice long shower (in the lovely outdoor shower).

Chan Chan and the driver met us at noon. We drove throught the floating gardens. We could see tomatoes, rice, gourds and flowers growing.

Nga Hoe Chaung (jumping cat monestary) - of course we had to see that! I guess the monks were bored and decided to teach some cats some tricks! We were able to see a few of the cats jump through small hoops Bill's Morning Smoke and a Beer. I don't think Ella or Ally will be able to learn how to do that.

The monastery is very beautiful, it is wooden and houses many styles of Buddhas - Shan, Tibetan, Bagan and Inwa (Ava) styles.

On the boat ride back to Nyaungshwe we saw many homes, birds, fishermen, people bathing, women washing clothes,...

We were greeted by a taxi to take us, Chan Chan and our things to her family's restaurant - Unique Superb. We had pre-ordered our lunch yesterday. Bill is having the filet minon (not quite the same) and I am having the grilled, stuffed fish (very good). We (I) also had corn soup and we shared a banana pancake for dessert.

Chan Chan's brother, father and children were very sweet and very good to us. Chan Chan's children were entranced by the stickers we gave them.

During the one hour ride back to HeHo airport we saw farmers, labourers, construction workers, large trucks, bicycles and motorbikes (very few helmets) Working The Vegtable Gardens. Our driver was a bit timid, but we survived the traffic and the winding roads.

It took us five minutes to check in to our flight and go through security. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the flight. The plane was a bit older (they all have been), but it stayed in the air when it was supposed to! We had to stop in Mandalay again. It was 25 min to Mandalay and 1 hour and 10 min to Yangon from there. We had a snack on the second leg - chocolate chip muffin, a peanut candy and a tangerine. If you are trying to do Myanmar in a short period of time, flying is the only way to go. It had taken us over 13 hours to get to Mandalay from Yangon previously!

We arrived in Yangon at 6:30 pm and only paid 5000 Kyat for the cab this time (we do eventually learn a thing or two), but agreed to pay 6000 Kyat tomorrow morning (OK, not that smart).

We checked into the biggest dive to date - Mah Shwe, but the location is right downtown, near the restaurant that Bill wants to go to and near the internet cafe we know I Don't Think Ella Would do This. I have already decided that I am going to sleep in the bag tonight and I am NOT going to shower. I will wait until we get to Bangkok. The towels should be white, but are beige! They do not have access to bleach here... There is no glass on the windows, only shutters, but we do have a/c and electricity all night.

We found our way back to the restaurant where Bill had enjoyed the pepper beef the first day. It was a long, humid walk and we were very hot when we arrived. We can not find pepper beef on the menu, but we are finally able to find pepper chicken and explain to the waiter what we want. We also ordered beef kabobs. The pepper beef was OK, but the kabobs were really thin strips of beef overcooked to leather status with a tomato and onion sauce. The waiter was extremely attentive though. I don't think he was more than 2 feet away the whole time. I was kinda funny.

We stayed at the internet cafe until they threw us out! I would have stayed there until 5 am if they let me.

Sweeny Todd was on the movie channel, it was almost at the same spot where I stopped watching it a few days ago. It was a very odd movie... We finally went to sleep around midnight.
