Labour Day Drinking

Sheila and Doug enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel.

I asked Bill to navigate me to a cafe to get a chai latte. We ended up in an alley behind the race track stables.

After a lot of walking and help from Bill I found the cafe beside the race track and a golf course?? My drink was good and I was able to get a delicious peanut butter, chocolate chip, and coconut ball with it.

We parked by the Muckross mansion in the national park, near the lake in a sheltered area and saw a Great Cormorant napping. I was surprised how close we were able to get without it flying off.

We used Bill’s All Trails app to guide us around and find the path to the upper and lower Torc Falls. It worked really well and we were able to hike up the hill (191m elevation rise) and then down the stairs to see the lower falls.

We toured around 8.5km in the area for 3 hours. We started in the rain and ended in the rain. The rest of the hike was rainbows, sunshine, and wind. As we were walking back to the mansion, I said, “around the next bend we are going to see some red deers” and we did!

Bill was able to get a souvenir t-shirt in the gift shop and I checked out the down jackets for 50 Euros but decided that it would only be good for fall weather. So I just bought some chocolate truffles instead.

We had lunch at O’Donoghue. Bill and I split the Kerry Mixed Grill with steak, Sneem black pudding, sausage, liver, smoked bacon, lamb, mushroom, and fried egg. Sheila really enjoyed her Killarney beer battered fish and chips, Doug really liked his lamb shepherds pie.

Bill headed to Murphy’s Bar and Restaurant to work on the pictures for the blog. Sheila, Doug, and I did some window shopping.

We joined Bill at the pub for a few drinks and we finished our game from last night. I held on to my lead until the end but Bill had a couple of good hands and won this round.

We drove over to St Mary’s Cathedral but just peeked in because they were having a funeral for a kid. The place was filled with middle school aged kids wearing their school uniforms. So sad…

Back at the hotel we popped down to the other end of the hotel for a few drinks at the Devil’s Punchbowl Bar. Cards and drinks were on the menu.

Sheila and I went to the hot tub with the most bubbles ever. Then I had a shower in our room that I have dubbed the Irish Freckle Blaster.

Damien Murphy drove us to The Lane for dinner. The charcuterie platter was very good, my gluten-free fish tacos were really good, Bill really liked the chicken. We all ended up being very full - the portions were really big - the small wing appetizer were a meal.

We were all pretty tired so headed back to the hotel. Sheila, Doug, and I played another round of Bitch Rummy and Bill went to bed early. I racked up another win bringing my total to 5. Bill propped the door of our room open for me because I did not have a key. When I opened the door and moved my hiking boot, I let the door go, and it slammed shut waking him up with a start because he had created a wind tunnel from the wind gusts coming off the lake by having the patio door open.
