Glass Go!
We were on the road before 6am - everyone was very prompt - well done!
We took the one lane road back to Port Ellen instead of the highway because we found that it was faster. We fell in behind two transports that were booking along and were obviously heading to the ferry too.
We were the first car to board and drove up a ramp on the boat. Once other cars were loaded we raised the ramp to make a second deck - what?!
Once again the cabin of the ship was freezing. I was wearing a long sleeve shirt, my sweat shirt, my warm scarf from Ecuador and had to lay my rain jacket over my legs to stop from shivering while I stretched out on the bench. I must have napped because I opened my eyes again more than an hour later.
To depart from the ferry they unloaded the vehicles from the lower deck and then lowered our deck so we could drive straight out. That was pretty cool.
There was a lot of construction on the way to Glasgow but we made good time, parked near our hotel and then had a great lunch at The Butterfly and The Pig. The menu was very “punny”. I was able to have gluten-free battered fish and it was delicious! Bill and Doug enjoyed the venison and steak pies and Sheila had a delicious soup with big chunks of seafood.
Bill stayed at the restaurant to take a call. Sheila, Doug, and I did a bit of shopping. Doug purchased his two whiskies, I bought a couple of souvenirs, and Sheila was able to buy a gift for Annie.
We met Bill back at the hotel, freshened up and took an Uber down to Ashton Lane. We were able to find some candy to bring home for Kim. Stopped in at Curler’s Rest and then Jinty McGuinty’s pub for some drinks. It is a hidden gem with a few spots to find drinks or a bite to eat.
We had an early reservation at The Ubiquitous Chip for a great meal. I really enjoyed the haddock and our side of colourful carrots and the guys were happy with their ribeyes.
We took a taxi to The Pot Still for the whisky tasting for Bill’s Anniversary present. Chris did a great job describing and sharing stories of the whiskies he had selected for us and answering all of our questions. Bill thought Chris provided good details, good progression, and we learned how to properly pronounce a couple of them.
Sheila and Doug were good sports and hung out beside us having beers and whisky.
We were able to successfully stumble back to the hotel while sticking Doug (thank you very much) with the tab before crashing early.
